THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN™ 2

ECOSPIDEY

Spider-Man believes that with great power comes great responsibility—including for our planet. Learn how The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2 became Sony Pictures’ most eco-friendly production.

With great power comes great responsibility for our planet.
Expanding on the studio’s many sustainability efforts over the years, The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2became the most eco-friendly tentpole production in the history of Sony Pictures. The environmental efforts on- and off-set were supported at every level – from producers and studio executives to cast and crew – and began as soon as the film went into pre-production.

While the film was on location in East River Park, the studio helped restore benches and plant trees that had been devastated by Superstorm Sandy, leaving it a better place for the community. As the film’s legacy project, the studio donated an additional 50 trees to East River Park after the film wrapped.

"After years of working to implement sustainable practices on our productions, our efforts on The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2 resulted in estimated cost savings of over $400,000. This is more proof that what’s good for the planet can also be good for the bottom line," said Doug Belgrad, President of Columbia Pictures.

The studio communicated eco efforts in real time through a dedicated Twitter handle @EcoSpidey, created an EcoSpidey "sizzle reel" of behind-the-scenes sustainability efforts and developed an EcoSpidey Photo Hunt Game, in which users help Spider-Man defeat Electro by becoming a superhero for the planet.

The studio purchased Gold Standard carbon offsets that render the entire physical production of the film, as well as its publicity tour, carbon-neutral. The carbon offset project provides efficient cook stoves to prevent deforestation in the habitat of the Giant Panda.

The collective efforts on The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2 led to it being the first Sony Pictures film to be rewarded with a Greener World end credit.
