Sony Pictures enables interested employees to help generate ideas on how to make our operations greener. The studio provides seed project funding through “Idea to Action” grants; hosts sustainability idea labs for business units; and promotes a Green Office Certification program for individual employees.
This grant offers funding for employees worldwide to use to take action on their own green ideas. Extra consideration is given to ideas that demonstrate a double bottom line of cost savings and increased sustainability. Grants have been awarded to employees across multiple divisions and many countries. Funds have provided reusables in office kitchens, retrofitted lighting controls for energy savings, built workplace community gardens, provided office composting equipment and launched at-work bike share programs.
Sony Pictures offers its employees worldwide the opportunity to give $7,500 toward a sustainable project of their choice. The Greener World Grant program enables eligible employees to form teams and recommend non-profit organizations with a sustainability mission for a corporate grant. Once approved, the employee teams engage in an actionable event with the non-profit organization. The program has awarded funds to numerous worldwide organizations with projects ranging from restoring a section of the Los Angeles River to implementing vertical school gardens, planting native trees in a refuge in Spain, growing cocoa plants with a social enterprise in Manila, and funding a Sony water well in Ethiopia to increase the availability of potable water. The Greener World Grant enables employees to support causes they care about and to play an active part in improving the communities in which they live.
